Ph.D. student

Markus studied Medicine at Ulm University and Mount Sinai School of Medicine and holds the German and US medical licenses. Through an internship in pathology, he became exposed to tissues and was drawn to cancer where tissue integrity is disrupted. The cellular heterogeneity he observed under the microscope roused his curiosity. He is aiming to understand the molecular machinery that determines cell behavior in tissue context from a systems perspective. In October 2012 he joined the Pelkmans lab to address phenotypic and molecular cell-to-cell variability in tumor specimens. His work focuses on the spatial organization of signaling networks at the single-cell level.
